Paste your OET Writing referral letter below. We will scan it for informal abbreviations that could cost you points.
One of the most common OET writing mistakes is the overuse of medical jargon and casual abbreviations. In a professional referral letter, clarity is graded heavily. While universally accepted acronyms like "BMI" or "BP" are usually fine, shorthand like "pt" (patient), "hx" (history), or "dx" (diagnosis) are considered unprofessional in formal correspondence and will lower your score.
Always write with your reader in mind. If you are writing a discharge letter to a community nurse or a non-specialist, you must write out conditions and treatments fully.
